Withdrawal of Manuscript

Pluralia: Journal of Religion and Society recognizes that authors may need to withdraw a submitted manuscript for legitimate academic, ethical, or administrative reasons. However, manuscript withdrawal must be conducted responsibly because the editorial and peer-review process involves the time and effort of editors, reviewers, and journal staff.

Authors are strongly advised to ensure that the manuscript is complete, original, approved by all authors, and not under consideration by another journal before submitting it to Pluralia: Journal of Religion and Society.

General Policy

• Authors may request manuscript withdrawal by submitting a formal written request to the editorial office.
• The withdrawal request must clearly state the reason for withdrawal.
• The request must be approved by all authors listed in the manuscript.
• Withdrawal is not automatic and must be confirmed by the editorial office.
• Authors must not submit the same manuscript to another journal before receiving official confirmation of withdrawal from Pluralia: Journal of Religion and Society.

Withdrawal Before Initial Editorial Screening

Authors may withdraw a manuscript before the initial editorial screening has begun. In this stage, withdrawal requests are generally accepted as long as the request is submitted formally by the corresponding author and approved by all co-authors.

Withdrawal During Peer Review

Withdrawal during the peer-review process is strongly discouraged unless there is a valid reason, such as a serious error in the manuscript, authorship dispute, ethical concern, or unavoidable administrative issue. Since reviewers and editors may have already invested time in evaluating the manuscript, authors must provide a clear explanation for the withdrawal request.

Withdrawal After Acceptance

Withdrawal after acceptance is not normally permitted except under exceptional circumstances. Accepted manuscripts may have already entered the copyediting, layout editing, or publication production stage. Authors requesting withdrawal after acceptance must provide a strong justification, and the final decision will be made by the Editor-in-Chief.

Withdrawal After Publication

Published articles cannot be withdrawn by authors. If serious errors or ethical issues are identified after publication, the case will be handled according to the journal’s correction, expression of concern, or retraction policy. The scholarly record must be preserved, and any post-publication action will be clearly documented.

Withdrawal Procedure

1. The corresponding author submits a formal withdrawal request to the editorial office.
2. The request must include the manuscript title, author names, submission ID, reason for withdrawal, and confirmation that all authors agree to the withdrawal.
3. The editorial team reviews the withdrawal request.
4. The Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor decides whether the withdrawal request can be approved.
5. The editorial office sends an official withdrawal confirmation to the corresponding author.

Unethical Withdrawal

Withdrawal may be considered unethical if authors withdraw a manuscript after peer review without valid reason, submit the same manuscript to another journal while it is still under review, or fail to inform the editorial office properly. Such actions may affect future submissions by the same author(s) to the journal.
