Peer Review Process

All research articles submitted to Pluralia: Journal of Religion and Society undergo editorial screening and a double-blind peer-review process. The identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential during the review process. Peer review is conducted by reviewers with expertise relevant to the manuscript’s subject area and who are not part of the journal’s editorial staff.

Peer-Reviewed Content

Original research articles and review articles are subject to double-blind peer review. Book reviews, editorials, announcements, and non-research materials may be reviewed internally by the editorial team and will be clearly identified according to their article type.

Review Procedure

  1. Initial Editorial Screening: The editor evaluates the manuscript’s relevance to the focus and scope, originality, formatting, language quality, and ethical compliance.
  2. Similarity Check: The manuscript is checked using plagiarism detection software before being sent to reviewers.
  3. Reviewer Assignment: Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise.
  4. Double-Blind Review: Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on originality, theoretical contribution, methodology, analysis, discussion, references, and academic writing quality.
  5. Editorial Decision: Based on reviewers’ recommendations, the editor makes one of the following decisions: accepted, minor revision, major revision, resubmit for review, or rejected.
  6. Revision: Authors must submit a revised manuscript and a response to reviewers explaining how each comment has been addressed.
  7. Final Decision: The editor evaluates the revised manuscript and makes the final publication decision.

Use of Author-Recommended Reviewers

Authors may suggest potential reviewers during submission. However, the editorial team is not obliged to use the suggested reviewers. The final selection of reviewers is determined by the editor based on expertise, independence, and absence of conflict of interest.

Supplementary Materials

Supplementary materials may be reviewed when they are necessary for evaluating the manuscript’s data, methods, or findings. The editor may request additional files or clarification from the authors during the review process.

Review Reports

Review reports are confidential and are not published together with the article. Reviewers remain anonymous unless otherwise required by a specific editorial decision.

Estimated Review Duration

The initial editorial screening normally takes 1–2 weeks. The peer-review process usually takes 4–8 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and the complexity of the manuscript. The overall editorial process may take approximately 8–12 weeks from submission to final decision. The journal does not guarantee acceptance or unusually short peer-review times.

Publication Dates

Published articles will include the date of publication. Submission and acceptance dates will also be displayed on the article page and PDF file.
